Worn Well: Tales of clothing that inspire longevity
Price: $35 (student price $15)
Freight to ship within Aotearoa New Zealand: $5
Description:
This book begins by outlining issues associated with over-production and over-consumption within the fashion industry globally. It then describes current waste issues around worn garments within an Aotearoa New Zealand context. It distils key findings of a Waikato-based survey, and in-person interviews with individuals about their most loved and most worn garments.
The purpose of the book is to highlight how critical it is to wear garments, as we know that wearing garments for longer reduces their environmental footprint. The book aims to better understand the critical, yet under-researched stage of garment use. The book includes 11 in-person interviews capturing stories of loved and worn clothing. Themes emerge through the interviews, providing rich and complex information regarding why people have selected certain garments as their most worn and most loved. It also captures elements of social history, identifying key events within Aotearoa New Zealand and the Waikato. Portrait photography, as well as close-up photography of loved and worn garments makes the book an engaging read.
