The purpose of the research was find the level of nonylphenols present in the wastewater from the first launder of new activewear garments purchased in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The key concern here was to understand if nonylphenol ethoxylates, which break down quickly to become nonylphenols, were present at levels known to be toxic to wildlife. Detectable levels were found in all garments tested in the study. This study is the first of it's kind in Aotearoa New Zealand and was collaboratively undertaken by:
