How textiles are coloured has an impact. Colouration of textiles has a long tradition, and current commercial practices for colouring textiles are widely acknowledged as having a huge environmental impact, using high levels of water, chemicals, and energy.
Through the process of hand dyeing, I have reshaped my own colouration practices, work here explores this turning point in my own practice. With some samples exploring low water dye methods (such as the traditional Japanese technique of shibori) that conserve both water and chemicals. Additionally, exploring quilting techniques to add small touches of colour.
